Portrait Sessions

Contrary to common practice, I do not believe in the principle of charging a sitting fee for child portraiture, believing that it is wrong for the customer to have to commit to significant expenditure before a single shot is even taken! The aim is to capture relaxed, unself-conscious images – a process which is not aided by any form of pressure such as “sit nice for the photographer”. As a father of three girls, I know only too well how fickle this whole process can be and that is why I want you to be happy with the finished result before committing to spending money. The onus is therefore on me to capture images that you and your relatives will wish to purchase as a record of those precious and all-too-fleeting younger years. If, for whatever reason (bad moods, bad weather, poor light etc) you do not wish to purchase any prints there will be no charge.

The costs and expenses of the photo session and subsequent processing are therefore covered instead in the one-off initial print order processing fee of £40 payable with the first order. Thereafter print pricing is at the standard rates shown on the "Prints" pages.

Bespoke Travel Photography

I am pleased to introduce a very special new service, which will be of interest to those who demand the very best in all aspects of their lives.

Whilst discerning travellers are increasingly prepared to spend appropriately, to get the best professional service for nearly every aspect of their vacation, they leave the most precious and long lasting element to chance – the photographs and the memories they represent. Unfortunately, these all too often consist of blurred, under exposed snaps with heads cut off and landmarks not visible in the background. Besides, who wants to view the world through a viewfinder, when you have travelled to enjoy the scenery, activities and events first hand?

With the recent advances in professional digital photography, it is now possible to create a comprehensive visual record of any activity, or an entire vacation, in an interesting and dynamic photojournalistic style and present the finished result in an attractive bound, high quality, glossy, coffee table book, complete with text, quotes, anecdotes etc. This will create a unique and very special souvenir of any trip which can be enjoyed for years to come and which can be proudly shown to friends and family – hopefully without the usual groans which often accompany the bringing out of the “holiday snaps”!

With extensive experience in action sports photography in many parts of the world and a relaxed, informal and contemporary portrait style, I am well placed to capture the essence of a family holiday or sports / adventure trip in an unobtrusive manner. From producing stunning action shots of sporting activities “just like the magazines”, to beautiful candid portraits, all complimented by the details which capture the essence of a particular day or event, I would create a diverse and interesting visual record of any trip or vacation. I aim to provide a very bespoke and personal service tailored exactly to your wishes and taking account of the type of holiday being planned. There would be no set “packages” or limit to numbers of shots taken as the key to success would be working closely but discreetly with you and being adaptable to events as they unfold. A relaxing family or corporate holiday should not be a precisely scheduled or rigidly planned affair and my role would be to follow and record events – not dictate or influence them. For this reason the number of commissions taken on in a year is strictly limited, to ensure that whatever time is necessary can be spent both on the taking of the photographs and in the all-important post-processing and album design stages.

Whilst in normal circumstances copyright always remains with the photographer, I am conscious that the type of client this service would appeal to would expect the highest levels of privacy and discretion. For this reason copyright, along with all files arising from a job pass to the client and the rates charged reflect this important point.
